Persona is a chamber opera for three singers, strings and synthesizer for a target audience of 12 to 15 year olds. In a world dominated by masks and performance, children are more than ever conditioned to follow suit, whether online, after school or in the classroom. Persona focuses on three teenagers with radically different values and priorities. Charlie is popular at school but is secretly trapped in her dysmorphia, Rocco overacts his masculinity, whilst posting drag makeup home tutorials, and Alex prioritizes her activist causes to any form of real social bond.

Delving into their newly added PERSONA profiles (an addictive hybrid of known platforms, with an added diary feature), they are forced to make decisions that will expose them in unexpected ways. The role of the audience here is novel: Slipping into the roles of their followers they influence the path our three protagonists will face. Each show is thus unique and can result in drastically different outcomes, shaping both the plot and the fate of all three heroes.

Beside „Persona“ Theatre Dortmund also contributed to a second technology production. The Academy for Theatre and Digitality Dortmund as one of the two digital advisers of PlayOn! worked together with Platypus Theatre Berlin and Landesbühnen Sachsen Radebeul to develop the AR-theatre project „Berlin@Play“ based on the novel „The Castle“ by Franz Kafka.

With Berlin@Play, urban space becomes theater and you become the main actor in an interactive story:

The URBI Institute for Urban Design, under the direction of its chairman Dr Klamm invites citizens to measure their city. The goal is to collect data for the construction of a smart city and thus to involve citizens in the development process of their city. Equipped with a tablet, the audience is sent to the southern Friedrichstadt. They are accompanied by the artificial intelligence ZUBI, which shows them the way, and their cultural guide Barnabas. But not everything is as it seems at first, and the data collection turns into a Kafkaesque search for answers.

The view through the tablet opens up a new level of perception for the players: virtual elements, projected into the real urban space, combine to form an augmented reality (AR) in which you move and act. In the process, you have to decide for yourself what your contribution to the smart city should be. A story about our digital lives and the questions: What does the city of the future look like? Who lives in it and who owns it? And what role do you play?
