Academy for Theatre and Digitality

(Theater Dortmund, Germany)

As the sixth branch of the Theater Dortmund, the training facility Academy for Theater and Digitality went into operation at the end of March 2019. The long-term „model project for digital innovation, artistic research and technology-oriented training and further education“ is financed with funds from the city of Dortmund, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Federal Cultural Foundation.

The artistic director of Drama Theatre Dortmund, Kay Voges, was the initiator and founder and is the founding director until the end of his term. The operational artistic director is Marcus Lobbes.

As long as the new building advertised by the city of Dortmund as part of the planned Digital Campus has not yet been completed, the academy is housed in the former joinery of the Dortmund Theater. That’s 800 square meters, which are equipped with the latest digital technology. In that research laboratory, free of economic constraints, scholarship holders can deal with the effects and opportunities of digitality in the scenic arts and workshops will qualify theatre employees for the technical requirements of the 21st century.

has worked as a director and outfitter in music and spoken theatre since 1995. His focus is on uncompromising classic productions as well as numerous premieres and first performances in many renowned theatres of the Republic (Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, Theater Freiburg, Nationaltheater Mannheim, the State Theatres in Kassel, Mainz, Saarbrücken, Darmstadt and Braunschweig, Schauspiel Dortmund, Wuppertaler Bühnen and many more).
